SCOTTSDALE & TUCSON, Ariz. - Jan 5 2009 - American Solar Electric, Inc. and Solon Corporation today announced a photovoltaic (PV) module supply agreement. The agreement initially calls for Solon to supply over 1.5 megawatts (MW) of its Tucson-manufactured solar panels to American Solar Electric, marking Solon's entrance into the U.S. residential market segment. The combination of design and installation services from Arizona-based American Solar Electric and Arizona-manufactured products from Solon offers the most complete Arizona solution for residential PV systems to date.

NFL Greens Super Bowl Week for Third Consecutive Year

Tampa Electric Company (TECO) announced that it will provide green power for 100% of the electricity needs of Super Bowl XLIII on February 1, 2009. Under the agreement, TECO will supply Florida-based renewable energy for the game at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, as well as the five-day NFL Experience festival, for a total of 187,000 kWh. The renewable energy will be sourced in part from biomass and solar power. The purchase was made possible by state regulators’ recent approval of a new offering that allows TECO to sell blocks of renewable energy to customers for one-time events.
To help offset the game’s carbon impact, the National Football League (NFL) will also plant 2,700 trees at a dozen sites in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, the Florida Division of Wildlife, and the Florida Division of Forestry. The…

WASHINGTON, DC DOE delivered the Bratislava Nuclear Security report to the White House, which detailed the status of work agreed to by Presidents Bush and Putin in Bratislava in 2005. U.S. and Russian officials from the U.S. DOE's NNSA, the U.S. DoD, the Russian Ministry of Defense and State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom reviewed work to complete nuclear security upgrades in Russia at meetings in Moscow last week.
