Job Description

A Commercial PV Designer is responsible for creating plan sets for mid-sized (100kW DC - 800kW DC) photovoltaic systems in a deadline-driven environment. The candidate must be comfortable, confident, & knowledgeable in both written & verbal correspondences when responding to building department official's plan check comments for obtaining building permits, and also in providing engineering support to field crews throughout all phases of construction through interconnection with the utility.

The designer must be able to quickly understand widely varying site conditions and design requirements on sites throughout the U.S. through the use of photographic and CAD information provided by others, and incorporates electrical and structural engineering concepts to create detailed and accurate plan sets. The designer must be comfortable creating and operating under a tight schedule in order to meet project deadlines, and handling several projects simultaneously. The designer will be expected to interface with licensed engineers, building officials, public officials, project managers, and teammates in a professional capacity in order to bring designs, permits, and projects to completion.

Responsibilities

* Use AutoCAD 2D software and custom software tools to design commercial photovoltaic roof top systems
* Work with project managers to submit plans and drawings to building departments
* Ability to communicate succinctly and clearly in a professional work environment
* Ability to read and understand architectural plans and schematics
* Track permitting process through approval
* Work cross-functionally with sales, project management and installation teams to ensure clients' needs and internal deadlines are met
* Perform additional duties as assigned and/or directed

Qualifications

* B.S. in engineering or related technical field
* Minimum 3 years of AutoCAD experience preferred
* A minimum of 1 year of solar photovoltaic design experience required
* Experience in a commercial construction environment a plus
* Working knowledge of 2008/2011/2014 NEC
* NABCEP PV Entry Level Certificate of Knowledge a plus
* Proficiency with MS Excel, Word required
* An understanding of three-phase electrical systems
* UBC/IBC conversant (ability to understand structural terminology as it relates to construction materials and techniques)
* Experience working under tight deadlines
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
* Excellent customer service skills required
* Regular, reliable and predictable attendance required
* Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment
* Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment criminal screen. Additional pre-employment driving and drug screens may be required based on job responsibilities
